ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A 39-year-old man from Christmas, Fla., died Saturday night following a motorcycle-SUV collision on S.R. 50.
The incident occurred at 7:24 p.m. at the intersection of Taylor Creek Road. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a Buick Lucerne was attempting to turn into a private driveway when it entered the westbound lanes, colliding head-on with a Suzuki GSX-R1000 motorcycle.
Both vehicles caught fire as a result of the impact. The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from his vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Buick, a 67-year-old man from Oviedo, was not injured and remained at the scene after the crash.
Authorities have not confirmed whether the Buick driver was wearing a seat belt at the time. The roadway has since been reopened, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
