Community Supports Starkville Officer in His Recovery from Motorcycle Crash.

STARKVILLE — Corporal Colby Huffman of the Starkville Police Department is recovering after a serious motorcycle accident on Feb. 21 while escorting a funeral detail.

Huffman was critically injured and airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he is receiving intensive care. According to his family, neurologists report positive progress, noting that a recent CT scan indicates his head injuries are healing well.

This week, Huffman achieved significant rehabilitation milestones. On March 3, he underwent surgery to repair a broken femur. Two days later, he received a tracheostomy to replace his endotracheal tube, facilitating his efforts to breathe independently. Doctors expect him to achieve this milestone soon.

Huffman’s family plans to transfer him to the Shepherd Center in Georgia on Monday, a facility specializing in traumatic brain injury rehabilitation for continued intensive therapy.

Community members are rallying support for Huffman through fundraising initiatives, including a GoFundMe page and a local raffle. Proceeds will help cover his family’s travel, food, and recovery expenses. GoFundMe donations can be made online, and raffle tickets are available at local businesses or by contacting organizers through the Starkville PD’s Facebook page.

“Every bit of support will help ease the burden on our family,” his family stated, expressing gratitude for community prayers and generosity.
