WINDHAM (WGME) — A pickup truck driver has been charged in connection with a deadly crash that killed a motorcyclist on Route 302 on Wednesday.
Chad Jordan, 34, was arraigned in Portland District Court on Friday. He faces multiple charges, including manslaughter and aggravated assault, stemming from the incident that occurred around 5:30 p.m.
Authorities reported that Jordan was driving erratically when he crossed the center line, colliding with a minivan before striking the motorcycle. The motorcycle caught fire on impact, resulting in the death of the rider, whose identity has not yet been released.
Emergency responders from the Windham Fire Department and other agencies arrived on the scene to assist. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and Jordan is currently held at Cumberland County Jail.
Witnesses and local motorcyclists expressed concern over increasing motorcycle crashes in Maine, highlighting a series of eight incidents since August 19, resulting in seven fatalities. Riders are urging safer driving practices, particularly awareness of potential distractions on the road.
In Maine, helmet use is mandated for riders under 18 or those with a learner’s permit. The ongoing investigation into the Windham crash continues as Jordan faces further legal proceedings.
