UNION COUNTY, Tenn. (WZTV) — A motorcycle crash on State Route 33 in Union County claimed the life of Claiborne County Mayor Joseph Brooks on Friday night.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:05 p.m. as Brooks was riding northbound on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle near the Claiborne County line. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, he lost control while navigating a curve, struck a guardrail, and came to a stop in the outside lane.
Brooks, 56, was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency responders from the Tennessee Highway Patrol and local agencies were dispatched to the crash site.
Authorities confirmed that no other vehicles were involved in the incident. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is ongoing.
Brooks’ passing has led to an outpouring of support and condolences from the community and local leaders.
