WAIPAHU – A 19-year-old man died following a collision while riding his electric motorcycle in Waipahu on November 29.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:15 p.m. on Malakeke Street, according to Honolulu Police. A 44-year-old driver, accompanied by a juvenile passenger, was traveling westbound when he attempted to overtake another vehicle and collided with the motorcyclist.
The motorcyclist was ejected from his bike and sustained critical injuries. He was not wearing a helmet during the crash and was transported to the hospital.
On December 11, authorities confirmed that the motorcyclist had succumbed to his injuries. The driver and his passenger remained at the scene and reported no injuries.
Investigators noted that speed may have contributed to the crash; however, it is unclear if drugs or alcohol were involved. This incident marks Oahu’s 81st traffic fatality of the year, up from 47 at the same time last year.
