Fatal Collision in Springfield Claims One Life and Critical Injuries to Another
A two-vehicle crash occurred in Springfield on October 10, 2023, at approximately 6:15 p.m., resulting in one fatality and one critical injury.
The incident took place on Route 125 near the intersection with Maple Street. A sedan and an SUV collided, leading to the immediate death of the 34-year-old male driver of the sedan. The 29-year-old female driver of the SUV sustained critical injuries and was transported to Springfield Memorial Hospital.
According to the SPRINGFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT, both vehicles were traveling westbound when the collision occurred. Emergency responders, including the Springfield Fire Department, arrived promptly at the scene to assist.
Authorities have confirmed that eastbound lanes on Route 125 were temporarily closed for investigation and cleanup. It is expected that lane closures will remain in place for several hours.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing. Authorities urge any witnesses to come forward.
