LAMAR COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) – A motorcycle crash on U.S. Highway 98 in Lamar County on Saturday resulted in one fatality.
According to Lamar County Sheriff Danny Rigel, a car pulled out in front of the motorcyclist in the Bellevue community. Emergency services responded, but the motorcyclist did not survive.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating the incident. Authorities emphasized the importance of vigilance on the roads as motorcycle traffic increases during warmer months.
“Always look twice,” said MHP Troop J Public Affairs Officer Taylor Shows. “Making careless decisions, like pulling out in front of motorcyclists, can lead to tragic outcomes.”
Shows noted that heightened vigilance is crucial with more motorcyclists and bicyclists expected on roadways. MHP encourages all drivers to wear seatbelts, refrain from using their phones, and stay alert for cyclists.
