Motorcyclist Killed on Buckman Bridge, Father Urges Safety Awareness
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 19-year-old motorcyclist, Bri Haire, died following a collision on the Buckman Bridge on March 22, 2023.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Haire’s motorcycle struck the rear of an SUV. Authorities indicated that speed contributed to the accident. Haire’s father, Brian, emphasized the importance of sharing his daughter’s story to promote road safety.
Bri had recently graduated from Yulee High School and was enrolled in a motorcycle safety course scheduled for the upcoming weekend. Brian Haire discussed his daughter’s passion for motorcycling, stating that she had long dreamed of owning a bike.
“She was geared up,” he said, confirming that Bri wore a helmet, long sleeves, and boots at the time of the crash. He expressed heartache over the notification of her accident and the painful reality he faced at the hospital.
In response to the tragedy, Haire plans to establish a motorcycle safety initiative called “Riders for Bri,” aimed at funding advanced training for new riders. Excess funds will be used to support these safety courses.
The Florida Department of Transportation is awaiting the completion of the law enforcement investigation to review potential safety improvements on the bridge.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office offers free motorcycle safety classes, with the next session set for June 6. Additional details on supporting “Riders for Bri” can be found online.
