JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 19-year-old motorcyclist died in an accident on the Buckman Bridge on March 22, 2023.
Authorities said Brianne Haire was traveling at a high rate of speed when she rear-ended an SUV. Emergency responders from the Florida Highway Patrol arrived shortly after the crash, but Haire suffered fatal injuries.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, this incident marks one of nine motorcycle fatalities in Duval County this year. In contrast, there were 42 deaths in 2021 and 32 in 2020.
Witnesses reported the collision occurred in the southbound lanes of the bridge shortly before 2:41 p.m. Haire had recently obtained her motorcycle endorsement, following her father’s footsteps, who expressed concern about her riding.
In the wake of the tragedy, Haire’s father, Brian Haire, announced plans to fund new rider safety and training courses with any remaining funeral expenses. He is committed to preventing similar accidents in the future.
Funeral arrangements are pending. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
