Deadly Crash on Tail of the Dragon Claims Two Lives

Two Florida riders died in a motorcycle crash on Highway 129 in Blount County, Tennessee, at approximately 2:41 p.m. on October 14, 2023.

59-year-old Eduardo Falcone and 55-year-old Mariano Maldondo were traveling on a Harley-Davidson Trike when they lost control while navigating a sharp curve near mile marker five. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, both men succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident. Authorities confirmed that both were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.

Emergency responders from local agencies arrived promptly, though both riders were pronounced dead at the scene. The crash has prompted an investigation, with no additional details regarding causation released at this time.

Highway 129, known as the Tail of the Dragon, is infamous for its challenging 318 curves over 11 miles, attracting numerous motorcycle and car enthusiasts each year. The road is notorious for its limited runoff areas and steep elevation changes, creating a high-risk environment for even experienced operators.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the incident, with further information on factors such as speed or potential mechanical issues yet to be disclosed.
