GILFORD — A Gilford man died from injuries sustained in a two-car collision on Thursday morning, August 20.
Mark Mason, 79, succumbed to his injuries at Concord Hospital-Laconia on Friday evening, according to Gilford Police Lt. Curtis Mailloux.
The accident occurred at 7:37 a.m. at the intersection of Weirs and Lakeshore roads. Mason was driving a white Lexus SUV westbound on Lakeshore when his vehicle collided with a black Subaru driven by a 16-year-old male, who was preparing to turn left onto Weirs Road.
At the scene, a state trooper was administering CPR to Mason, who was not wearing a seatbelt. Both vehicles sustained significant front-end damage, and debris was scattered across the roadway.
Authorities closed the intersection for investigation until approximately 11 a.m. The Belknap Regional Accident Investigation Team and the Gilford Fire Department, along with the Belknap County Sheriff’s Office and Laconia Police Department, were on scene.
Investigators are reviewing details surrounding the collision, including the status of traffic signals at the time. Charges or additional information will be released as the investigation progresses, police said.
