Former Newberg High School football player Kai O’Reiley, 21, died in a motorcycle accident on the evening of Oct. 16.
The crash occurred at the intersection of Kuehne and Kinney roads off Highway 240, according to authorities. Emergency services responded swiftly, but O’Reiley succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
In the wake of his death, the community has rallied to support his family through a GoFundMe page, which has raised nearly $16,300 from 125 donors as of Oct. 20. The campaign aims to help cover estimated funeral and memorial costs totaling $24,000.
“During this incredibly difficult time, we want to come together as a community to surround their family with love, support, and compassion,” the GoFundMe page states. Organizers stress that no family should have to face the financial burden of losing a child, particularly at such a young age.
