Two Fatal Crashes on Arkansas Highways Leave Two Dead

Two vehicle crashes in South Arkansas resulted in fatalities over the weekend, according to State Police.

The first incident occurred early Sunday, April 12, at 1:25 a.m. in Howard County. Joe Walter Baker Jr., 44, of Little River was traveling eastbound on Arkansas Highway 27 when he failed to navigate a right-hand curve near Shiloh Road. His 2017 Chevy Tahoe left the roadway, struck several trees, and overturned. Authorities reported clear skies and dry roads at the time. Baker’s body was recovered and transported to the Howard County Coroner’s Office.

A second crash took place on Friday evening, April 10, at 7:20 p.m. in Pine Bluff. Rodney Edgin, 60, was riding a 2012 Harley-Davidson motorcycle westbound on Arkansas Highway 54. While negotiating a curve near Wallace Road, he crossed into oncoming traffic and veered into a ditch, leading to the motorcycle’s overturn. Weather conditions were also clear and dry at the time of this accident. Edgin was pronounced dead at the scene, and his body was taken to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.

Authorities continue to investigate both incidents.
