WILLIAMSBURG, IN — A motorcycle crash involving a truck left one passenger dead and two others injured on Monday, Sept. 1.
Kelly Rick, 41, of Ottawa, Illinois, was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision at U.S. 35 and Sycamore Street, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department.
Authorities reported that Joseph Riggs, 71, of Economy, was driving a Ford F-550 truck with a flatbed trailer northbound on U.S. 35 when the motorcycle, ridden by Shane Johnson, 43, also of Ottawa, attempted to pass in a no-passing zone.
As the truck turned west onto Sycamore Street, the motorcycle struck the trailer. Rick was a passenger on the motorcycle.
Both Johnson and Riggs were transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.
The crash is under investigation, pending toxicology results, Major Alan Moore of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department confirmed.
Emergency dispatchers received reports of the crash at 5 p.m. Crews from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, Williamson and Fountain City Fire Departments, Reid Health EMS and Trauma Team, and the Wayne County coroner responded to the scene.
