A motorcycle crash in Bloomfield Hills resulted in the rider’s death Sunday afternoon, according to local police.
Authorities reported the incident occurred shortly after 2:45 p.m. at the intersection of Woodward Avenue and Hickory Grove Road. The rider was traveling at a high rate of speed when a police officer attempted to initiate a stop, but the motorcyclist fled southbound on Woodward.
Moments later, another officer observed the same motorcyclist speeding near Long Lane Road, where the rider allegedly disobeyed multiple traffic control devices. At the traffic light on Long Lake, the motorcycle collided with an eastbound vehicle, which had the right-of-way.
The impact caused the motorcyclist to be thrown from the bike, where he then struck objects in the median. Despite efforts from Bloomfield Hills Department of Public Safety crews, the motorcycle operator was pronounced dead at the scene.
The occupants of the other vehicle were uninjured. The Bloomfield Hills Department of Public Safety is collaborating with the South Oakland County Crash Investigation Team to investigate the incident.
