Jose F. Perez Marin Charged with DUI in I-290 Crash That Killed Benjamin M. Farraday Following Nearby Chicago Shooting.

CHICAGO (WLS) – A 21-year-old Chicago man faces multiple DUI charges following a fatal crash on the Eisenhower Expressway early Sunday morning, according to Illinois State Police (ISP).

Jose F. Perez Marin has been charged with Aggravated Driving Under the Influence Involving Death, Aggravated DUI – No Driver’s License, and Aggravated DUI – Great Bodily Harm. ISP stated the incident occurred around 3 a.m. on westbound I-290 near Ashland Avenue.

Authorities reported that the crash was triggered when Perez Marin’s GMC SUV rear-ended a Toyota SUV, causing a chain-reaction involving two additional vehicles. A passenger in the Toyota, identified as 25-year-old Benjamin M. Farraday of Wheaton, was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Prior to the crash, ISP responded to a motorcycle shooting on I-290 at California Avenue around 11:20 p.m. Saturday. The motorcyclist was also transported to a hospital; their condition is currently unknown.

After receiving treatment, Perez Marin was taken into custody. He remains at the Cook County Jail awaiting his first court appearance. The investigation is ongoing.

Lane closures were in effect during the investigation, affecting traffic on the expressway.
