A 62-year-old man from Dayton has died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash on State Route 341 in Storey County on Saturday.
According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at approximately 10:40 a.m. on October 14, near mile marker 7, about 3 miles north of Virginia City. A 2012 white KTM Racer motorcycle, driven by 47-year-old Sean M. Labrie of Sparks, was traveling southbound when it failed to negotiate a curve, crossing into the northbound lane and colliding head-on with a 2009 white Aprilla motorcycle ridden by Kevin McIntire, 62, of Dayton.
McIntire was airlifted to Renown Regional Medical Center by Care Flight, where he died on October 19 as a result of his injuries. Labrie sustained serious injuries and was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center by Storey County Fire; he is currently in serious condition. Authorities confirmed that alcohol or drugs did not contribute to the accident.
Both northbound and southbound lanes were closed for several hours during the investigation, with traffic being diverted around the scene by NDOT. The roadway has one lane in each direction with a speed limit of 45 mph. The investigation is ongoing, led by Trooper Chris Kelly of the Nevada Highway Patrol’s Multi-Disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team (MIRT).
