Fatal Crash Involving Former LSU Player Under Investigation
CHACKBAY, LA — A crash on Louisiana Highway 20 on December 17, 2024, resulted in the death of 78-year-old Herman Hall. The incident involved multiple vehicles and is under investigation by the Louisiana State Police.
Authorities stated that Kyren Lacy, 24, was driving a green Dodge Charger southbound, reportedly at a high rate of speed and passing vehicles in a no-passing zone. Witnesses reported that Lacy’s vehicle did not impact any other cars directly; however, his reckless driving triggered a chain reaction that led to Hall’s fatal injuries.
Emergency services responded to the scene shortly after noon. Hall was a passenger in a Kia Sorento that was struck when the driver attempted to avoid a collision with a northbound pickup truck that braked suddenly in response to Lacy’s speeding Charger, which was noted to be traveling at over 40 mph in a designated speed zone.
An arrest warrant issued in January indicated Lacy faced charges including felony negligent homicide and hit-and-run driving. However, the Lafourche Parish District Attorney’s Office had yet to formally charge him before his reported death on April 12, 2025, due to an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound during a police pursuit.
Louisiana State Police have collected comprehensive video evidence, confirming the events leading to the collision. Col. Robert P. Hodges urged the public to rely on established facts over speculation.
The DA’s office intended to present the case to a grand jury for potential indictment just two days after Lacy’s death. No further details on the investigation have been released as it remains ongoing.
