Lee County Riders Raise Funds for Prosthetic Leg for Motorcycle Crash Victim.

LEE COUNTY, Fla. (WINK) — A motorcycle crash on North River Road on July 12 severely injured a woman, leading to the amputation of her left leg.

Maria Quinn was riding as a passenger when the motorcycle lost control on a turn, hitting a guardrail. She was airlifted to Gulf Coast Medical Center, where it was determined she had suffered multiple injuries, including severe trauma to her right arm and internal injuries.

According to Quinn, she initially did not grasp the severity of her injuries, instead trying to comfort other passengers. “I was trying to cheer other people up because everyone was freaking out,” she said.

In addition to the amputation, Quinn faced medical bills and the need for a prosthetic leg. Community support came quickly, with local organizations Blessed on Two Wheels and the Lost Riders hosting events that raised funds for her medical expenses. Dennis Segatto of Blessed on Two Wheels emphasized the prevalence of motorcycle injuries in the area, stating, “It’s an overwhelming amount of people that actually get injured in Southwest Florida.”

Kaitlyn Doherty of the Lost Riders remarked on the community’s swift response, calling it “amazing.”

The Lost Riders plan to hold a car and bike show in Quinn’s honor on January 8, 2024. Quinn expressed hope of being discharged from the hospital by that date to attend the event.
