Claiborne County Mayor Joe Brooks Dies in Motorcycle Crash
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – Claiborne County Mayor Joe Brooks died Saturday following a motorcycle accident on Highway 33 in Union County.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. Authorities confirmed that Brooks’s motorcycle struck a guardrail, leading to fatal injuries. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
THP is actively investigating the crash, and no charges have been filed at this time. Lane closures were reported on Highway 33 due to the accident.
Brooks served as the chief executive officer of Claiborne County, and his passing has prompted an outpouring of condolences from local leaders. U.S. Rep. Tim Burchett expressed his sympathy in a social media post, stating, “Joe was a good dude. He was always concerned about what was going on in Claiborne County.”
Tennessee State Senator Jessie Seal also expressed sorrow over Brooks’s death, referring to him as a community pillar. The Claiborne County Office of Emergency Management reflected on his dedication to public service, stating he “cared deeply for our community.”
Funeral arrangements for Brooks have not yet been announced. The situation remains under investigation by THP.
