Motorcyclist dies following collision in Effingham
EFFINGHAM, N.H. —
A 21-year-old motorcyclist died after a crash involving a car on Route 25 in Effingham on Thursday night.
According to police, Jonathan Kauffman of Bridgton, Maine, was riding westbound near Route 153 when a white sedan with New York plates stopped abruptly.
Kauffman lost control while trying to brake and collided with the rear of the sedan, which subsequently fled the scene, authorities said.
Kauffman was helicoptered to Maine Medical Center in Portland with serious injuries and was pronounced dead Friday morning.
Police described the sedan’s driver as an African American female with a medium build, glasses, and a ponytail.
Authorities noted Kauffman was likely riding without a helmet at the time of the accident.
An investigation is ongoing as police seek information regarding the fleeing vehicle. Witnesses are urged to come forward.
Multiple agencies responded to the incident; lane closures were in effect while the investigation was conducted.
