A 76-year-old man from Pinellas Park died Sunday afternoon after losing control of his three-wheeled motorcycle on the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.
The incident occurred at approximately 12:45 p.m. in the northbound lanes near Milepost 12, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). Authorities reported that the rider was navigating a Spyder motorcycle when he swerved to avoid an unknown vehicle, resulting in the crash.
FHP stated the motorcycle struck the outside guardrail after veering onto the shoulder, causing the rider to be ejected back into the northbound lane. The northbound lanes were closed for several hours as emergency response teams addressed the scene, reopening later in the evening.
No additional details about the unknown vehicle or further investigations were available at this time.
