PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) — A dirt bike crash resulted in one fatality late Thursday night at the intersection of Westminster and Dexter Streets in Providence.
Providence Police responded to the incident at approximately 11 p.m., where they discovered a man in his 20s critically injured, reportedly pinned under the dirt bike and a vehicle.
The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to authorities.
Witnesses described efforts by first responders, stating the man received chest compressions on the scene.
Authorities confirmed that operating dirt bikes on city streets is illegal in Providence, with Mayor Brett Smiley addressing safety concerns regarding such vehicles.
Local business owners indicated that accidents in the area are common, with one manager noting multiple incidents over summer months.
The investigation remains ongoing, as police are looking into whether additional vehicles were involved in the crash.
