ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A 76-year-old man from Pinellas Park died in a motorcycle crash on the Sunshine Skyway Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 12:45 p.m. when the man was traveling north on Interstate 275. He lost control of his Spyder motorcycle while attempting to avoid an unknown vehicle near milepost 12, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The motorcycle struck the guardrail after veering onto the shoulder, redirecting back into the outside northbound lane, where the rider was ejected.
Authorities confirmed the man died at the scene.
The northbound lanes of the bridge were closed for several hours and reopened around 5:30 p.m.
