Motorcyclist Dies After Crash in Michigan City
A crash involving a motorcycle and a vehicle resulted in the death of a 34-year-old man in Michigan City.
At approximately 4:35 p.m., the LaPorte County E-911 Regional Dispatch Center received a report of a personal injury crash at the intersection of East William Street and Pine Street. Officers from the Michigan City Police Department found the motorcyclist, identified as Brandon Summerlin, suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a hospital in South Bend but later succumbed to his injuries.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Summerlin was traveling south on Pine Street when a vehicle turned south onto Pine Street from East William Street, leading him to brake suddenly. He lost control, fell to the pavement, and sustained serious injuries. According to authorities, there was no direct collision between the motorcycle and the vehicle. Summerlin was not wearing a helmet or protective gear at the time of the crash.
The driver of the vehicle was taken to Franciscan Health Hospital for a chemical test, as mandated by Indiana law for serious injury or fatal crashes. Toxicology results for both individuals are pending, and the investigation is ongoing.
