Motorcycle Rider Dies in Crash on Interstate 75 Near Dearborn Street.

A motorcycle rider died Tuesday night following a crash on northbound Interstate 75 near Dearborn Street in Metro Detroit.

According to Michigan State Police, the rider was initially struck by a semi-truck and subsequently hit by additional vehicles after falling onto the roadway. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m., prompting multiple calls to the Detroit Regional Communications Center.

Detroit EMS confirmed the rider was deceased upon the arrival of emergency responders. The truck involved in the crash fled the scene, but a 50-year-old driver later notified authorities that he had struck something on the highway before driving to Warren due to nerves. State troopers are coordinating an interview with this driver.

All northbound traffic on I-75 was blocked at Schafer Highway, with drivers permitted to re-enter at Springwells Street. The roadway was cleared and reopened at 4:47 a.m.

Authorities emphasized the importance of remaining at the scene of an accident. “If you are involved in a traffic crash, stay on the scene,” said Michigan State Police F/Lt. Mike Shaw. “Not only is it your legal responsibility, it is the right thing to do.”

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
