Two children remain in medically induced comas following a fatal crash involving a motorcycle and a Nissan Sentra in Deerfield Beach on Saturday night.
The collision occurred around 8:30 p.m. in the 4100 block of West Hillsboro Boulevard, according to the BROWARD SHERIFF’S OFFICE. Authorities reported that the crash resulted in two fatalities, including one child, and five additional injuries.
Maxwell Patel, 18, of Parkland, was riding a 2022 Suzuki motorcycle westbound when he died at the scene. The driver of the Nissan, along with a juvenile male passenger, were transported to BROWARD HEALTH NORTH, while another boy was airlifted to BROWARD HEALTH MEDICAL CENTER for treatment. Three other passengers, including two adults and another child, were also taken to BROWARD HEALTH MEDICAL CENTER.
One child from the Nissan, identified as 4-year-old Kristi, later died at the hospital. Medrano, the child’s relative, shared that her brother, Abraham, 8, and cousin, Yamila, 7, are both hospitalized in comas. Witnesses reported that Yamila has sustained facial fractures and a broken pelvis, while their aunt has multiple serious injuries.
The investigation, conducted by BSO’s Traffic Homicide detectives, revealed that the Nissan was attempting a U-turn when it was struck by Patel’s motorcycle, causing the Nissan to overturn.
The BROWARD SHERIFF’S OFFICE confirmed that the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
