HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) – A motorcyclist died following a collision with an SUV on Interstate 59 South in Hattiesburg on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT), the crash occurred just after 3:30 p.m. past U.S. Highway 98 West, near the Purple Heart Bridge.
Authorities said the incident involved an SUV carrying multiple occupants and a motorcycle with a single rider. The motorcyclist was ejected during the crash and transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The SUV occupants sustained minor injuries.
The identity of the deceased motorcyclist has not been released. Witnesses reported the damaged motorcycle lying in the road after the accident.
Hattiesburg Police confirmed that the crash remains under investigation.
