ATLANTA – A motorcyclist was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 20 eastbound near McDaniel Street on Friday, according to the Atlanta Police Department.
Authorities reported that the incident occurred when the motorcycle, operated by an adult male, lost control while traveling at a high rate of speed. Witnesses stated that the motorcycle slid several hundred feet along the roadway.
Emergency medical personnel pronounced the rider dead at the scene. Police indicated that the rider’s helmet was damaged and came off during the crash, resulting in fatal head injuries.
The Atlanta Police Department’s Accident Investigations Unit is currently leading the investigation. Officials confirmed that no other vehicles were involved in the incident, and preliminary findings suggest the motorcycle had been seen passing multiple vehicles prior to the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
