MARION COUNTY, Ore. — At 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13, a two-vehicle crash occurred on Highway 99E at Quinaby Road NE.
According to authorities, a Dodge Charger driven by 30-year-old Juan Santiago Sandoval of Woodburn was stopped at the intersection when it turned north onto Highway 99E. The Dodge collided with a southbound Yamaha XJ650 motorcycle operated by 22-year-old Xander Ashton Colter of Kiezer.
Colter was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sandoval and his passenger, 27-year-old Ricardo Alvarez Acosta, also of Woodburn, were reportedly uninjured.
Sandoval was arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants.
The highway was closed for approximately five hours during the investigation.
Officials stated that impairment is a primary factor in the incident.
The investigation is ongoing, with assistance from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Salem Fire Department, and ODOT.
