Columbia Man Dies in Two-Vehicle Collision on Illinois 3
Columbia, IL — A 73-year-old Caseyville man died following a two-vehicle collision on Illinois Route 3 at North Main Street on Saturday at 11:27 a.m.
James Nix was transported to Mercy South in St. Louis, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said. Witnesses reported that Nix attempted a left turn without yielding to oncoming traffic, colliding with a northbound vehicle.
A 21-year-old man from Waterloo was driving a 2003 Oldsmobile with a green light when Nix, operating a 1994 Harley-Davidson, turned into his lane. An investigation is ongoing, with the Illinois State Police traffic reconstruction unit assisting Columbia Police.
No further details on injuries or tows were released.
A visitation for Nix will take place on Sunday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Kassley-Meridith Funeral Home in Caseyville, followed by a funeral on Monday at 10:30 a.m.
