SUMMERFIELD TWP, Mich. – A 47-year-old man was killed in a motorcycle crash involving a dog on Ida West Road Sunday night.
Lance Dusseau of Petersburg was riding westbound around 9:20 p.m. with a 19-year-old relative when a dog ran into the roadway. The dog, which entered from the south shoulder, collided with the left-side saddlebag of the 19-year-old’s motorcycle, causing Dusseau to lose control and strike a mailbox on the southbound side.
The 19-year-old, who was wearing a helmet, managed to stop safely on the south shoulder and was unharmed. Dusseau was pronounced dead at the scene, and authorities confirmed he was not wearing a helmet. Alcohol is not suspected to have contributed to the crash, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Details regarding the dog’s condition following the incident and why it was unrestrained remain unclear.
