TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – A motorcyclist sustained life-threatening injuries in a multi-vehicle crash near Sixth Avenue and Ajo Way on Tuesday, Aug. 18.
The Tucson Police Department reported the incident at approximately 3:30 p.m., prompting road closures that lasted until 6 p.m.
Emergency responders transported the motorcyclist to a local hospital, where they remain in critical condition.
Authorities confirmed at least three vehicles were involved: a motorcycle, a red SUV, and a dark blue car. A Crime Scene unit was deployed to the scene alongside a van from the Medical Examiner’s Office.
This incident marks the fifth severe crash in southern Arizona in less than a week, following several others that resulted in injuries and fatalities.
- On Aug. 12, one person died in a head-on crash on SR 79 near Catalina. According to DPS, a driver was killed after crossing the median and colliding with another vehicle.
- On Aug. 16, two people were killed in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 near Benson. DPS reported that Hunter Susan Milo Barrows and Luciano L. Johnson died when their vehicle crossed the median and struck another vehicle.
- On Aug. 17, one person died and another was injured in a two-vehicle crash at Grant and Rosemont in Tucson. Authorities identified Michael Thomas Still, 57, as the deceased passenger, who died at the hospital.
- On Aug. 18, a motorcyclist suffered severe injuries after crashing into the back of an SUV on SR 77 near Saddlebrook.
