Multi-Vehicle Collision on I-75 Leaves One Dead, Several Injured
A multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 75 near mile marker 220 in Florida occurred around 2:41 p.m. on Tuesday, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries, authorities said.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash involved five vehicles, including a tractor-trailer. One driver, a 34-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene, while three others sustained serious injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Emergency responders, including the Lee County Fire Rescue and the Florida Highway Patrol, arrived quickly, shutting down the northbound lanes of the interstate for several hours to assist with the situation and conduct an investigation.
Witnesses reported that the tractor-trailer collided with a sedan, which subsequently drove into three other vehicles. The cause of the accident is still under investigation, and no charges have been filed at this time. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
Traffic was significantly impacted, with detours in place as crews cleared the roadway. Northbound lanes of I-75 were reopened by approximately 5:00 p.m.
