A motorcyclist died early Sunday morning in a crash with a deer in Ann Arbor, authorities said.
Officers responded at 12:50 a.m. to Jackson Avenue near Worden Avenue after receiving reports of the collision. Upon arrival, they found a 20-year-old man from Ann Arbor with severe injuries.
Medics transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police. Preliminary investigations reveal that the motorcyclist was traveling east on Jackson Avenue when he struck the deer before crashing.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident. No additional details about ongoing roadway conditions were provided.
According to the Michigan State Police, there were 3,056 motorcycle crashes in the state in 2023, a 3% decrease from 2022. Motorcycle fatalities also dropped from 173 in 2022 to 165 in 2023.
Additionally, state data indicates that there were 58,806 deer-involved crashes in Michigan in 2023, down from 58,984 in 2022. However, fatal deer-involved incidents increased significantly, rising to 19 in 2023 from 11 in 2022.
