KUNIA, Hawaii (Local News Wire) – A motorcycle crash on Kunia Road on Labor Day resulted in the death of a 24-year-old male driver.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner confirmed that the driver, identified as Cory Jackson, died shortly after the incident, which occurred around 3 p.m. His passenger, a 22-year-old woman, remains hospitalized in extremely critical condition.
According to police, Jackson was speeding and overtaking vehicles on a 2006 Honda motorcycle when he collided with the rear of a 2005 Chevy van waiting to turn left onto a farm access road.
Both riders were ejected from the motorcycle and were transported to the hospital by emergency crews. Jackson succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.
Authorities closed Kunia Road in both directions for approximately two and a half hours for investigation. Speed is considered a contributing factor in the crash, though the involvement of drugs or alcohol is still under investigation.
