GIBSON CITY, Ill. (WAND) – A head-on collision resulted in the death of a motorcyclist Friday evening on IL-47 in Champaign County.
The crash occurred shortly before 6:30 p.m. near County Road 3475 North, approximately six miles south of Gibson City, according to Illinois State Police.
Authorities reported that a vehicle traveling north on IL-47 attempted to pass and collided head-on with a southbound motorcycle.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
The driver of the northbound vehicle was cited for improper lane usage and was not injured in the incident, according to police.
IL-47 was closed for nearly four hours to facilitate the investigation.
