Motorcyclist killed in I-84 crash caused by traffic backup from Broad Fire.

WEBER COUNTY, Utah, Sept. 6, 2026 — A fatal traffic collision involving multiple vehicles occurred Saturday afternoon on Interstate 84, prompted by congestion from the nearby Broad Fire.

According to the Utah Highway Patrol, the incident took place around 3:30 p.m. near mile marker 98. A pickup truck rear-ended an SUV, which then collided with a motorcycle, pushing it into a car. The motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries.

Emergency response teams were dispatched to the scene, and the injured rider was pronounced dead at the location. Identification of the deceased has not yet been released, pending family notification.

Authorities noted that the traffic delays were exacerbated by the fire conditions in Weber Canyon, leading to lane closures. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
