KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – A motorcycle crash on Asheville Highway resulted in the death of a 22-year-old man on Saturday afternoon.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Luke Bloomquist was riding westbound on Asheville Highway at approximately 2:41 p.m. when he collided with a Honda Ridgeline driven by a 72-year-old man who was making a turn onto Cash Road.
The Honda had begun its turn from the right lane when Bloomquist, traveling at an excessive speed, merged into the right lane in an attempt to avoid a collision. Bloomquist struck the Honda and was thrown from his motorcycle, landing in the right lane.
THP confirmed that Bloomquist, who was wearing a helmet, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The driver of the Honda was uninjured.
Authorities reported that the incident remains under investigation. Additional details have not yet been released.
