PHOENIX (Local News Wire) — A motorcyclist was killed in a crash on Interstate 17 in Phoenix early Saturday morning.
Emergency responders were dispatched just after 3 a.m. to the northbound lanes of Interstate 17 just south of Glendale Avenue, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
Upon arrival, authorities found the motorcyclist critically injured. The individual was transported to a hospital, where they later died.
The motorcyclist has not yet been identified, and officials are investigating the circumstances of the crash, which involved the motorcyclist colliding with the rear of another vehicle. The role of impairment is still being assessed.
Emergency crews were seen clearing a severely damaged motorcycle and a vehicle with extensive rear-end damage. Debris was also being cleaned from the roadway.
Northbound lanes remained closed for several hours, reopening shortly before 7 a.m. Southbound traffic was not affected.
