MICHAEL — A motorcycle rider died Saturday in a crash on Illinois Route 100 at approximately 4:10 p.m.
The unidentified motorcyclist was traveling south with a group when they braked abruptly north of North Michael Road, causing the motorcycle to skid and fall, according to the Illinois State Police.
The rider was thrown from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries, authorities reported. Emergency medical personnel responded but were unable to revive the motorcycle operator.
No other vehicles were involved in the incident. The roadway was closed for several hours as police investigated the scene. The investigation remains ongoing.
