Sergeant Dies in Motorcycle Crash on Taconic State Parkway
EAST FISHKILL, NY — A single-vehicle motorcycle accident on the Taconic State Parkway claimed the life of Sergeant Nigel K. Barnett on September 16, 2025, at 6:31 a.m.
According to the New York State Police, Barnett, 49, was riding a 2025 Ducati motorcycle southbound near mile marker 36.1 when he lost control. He was ejected from the motorcycle and struck a guardrail on the western shoulder.
Emergency responders quickly arrived, but despite life-saving measures, Barnett was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was a 19-year veteran of the New York State Police, most recently serving as Station Commander at State Police Cortlandt, Troop K.
