A tractor-trailer crashed into a Clifton limo company early Monday, embedding itself in the building as crews work on a complex removal plan.
The incident occurred at 2:22 a.m. on the eastbound exit ramp from Route 3 to Passaic Avenue, affecting the Toptown Limo Ride facility. Fire officials reported that the truck driver was trapped inside the cab and required extrication by firefighters. One person on the second floor of the building was also rescued using a ladder.
Clifton police stated that extensive structural damage necessitates careful stabilization of the building before the truck can be removed, adding that the operation will take most of the day. “This is a very complex situation,” a spokesperson for the Clifton Police Department said.
The truck remains on the scene, and witnesses described the crash as sounding like an explosion. Authorities said it is still unclear what led to the truck losing control.
