NHP Launches Investigation into Deadly Motorcycle Crash in Fallon.

Fernley Man Dies in Motorcycle Crash Following Police Pursuit in Fallon

FALLON, NV — A motorcycle crash claimed the life of a 23-year-old Fernley man on Friday night, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP).

Gregory L. Vasquez was involved in the incident shortly before 9 p.m. while allegedly trying to evade a traffic stop by Churchill County deputies on Harrigan Road. Authorities reported that the deputy attempted to pull over Vasquez for an unspecified traffic violation, but he fled the scene.

The patrol car lost sight of the motorcycle, a 2004 Honda CBR600RR, but the deputy suspected Vasquez had turned onto New River Parkway. Moments later, Vasquez returned to the intersection, saw the patrol vehicle, and attempted to escape again. While heading east on New River Parkway, he reportedly braked sharply while making a right turn, causing his motorcycle to hit a curb and then strike a tree, ejecting him from the bike.

Emergency medical services transported Vasquez to Banner Churchill Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation is being conducted by Trooper Doug Farris of the NHP. Authorities encourage any witnesses or individuals with additional information to contact him at (775) 689-4614 or via email at dfarris@dps.state.nv.us.
