Motorcycle Accident Claims Life of Local Navy Sailor in Spring Grove
SPRING GROVE, IL — Fire Controlman Aegis First Class Lance Shupe, 31, died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on September 10, 2025.
According to authorities, the incident occurred on Main Street and involved a single motorcycle. Emergency medical services responded, but Shupe was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident led to temporary lane closures while an investigation took place.
Shupe, born on September 13, 1993, in Effingham, Illinois, was known for his significant contributions at the Recruit Training Command, where he played key roles in training and mentoring recruits. He is survived by his parents, Mark and Patricia Shupe, a brother, a sister, and other family members.
Funeral services will be held on October 1, 2025, at Toledo Christian Church, starting at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. and continue until the service. Military rites and interment will follow at Toledo Cemetery. The Barkley Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.
