Police identify 60-year-old victim of motorcycle crash on I-5 in SW Portland.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KPTV) – A 60-year-old man died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash on Interstate 5 in southwest Portland Friday evening.

According to the Portland Police Bureau, Jason Doherty of Newberg was riding a 2002 Harley Davidson with a sidecar southbound on I-5 just before 6:30 p.m.

Following a left turn off the Marquam Bridge, his motorcycle veered out of the traffic lane and collided with a concrete barrier.

A crew from Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue was nearby and attempted lifesaving measures but were unable to revive him.

Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the motorcycle’s sudden swerve, authorities said.

Doherty was wearing a half-shell novelty helmet that does not meet Department of Transportation safety standards, according to police.

Southbound I-5 was closed at the Marquam Bridge for several hours as an investigation was conducted.

Police are urging anyone with information regarding the crash to contact the Portland Police Bureau and reference case number 26-178327.

Doherty’s death marks the 20th traffic-related fatality in Portland this year, with eight involving motorcycles or gas-powered scooters.
