A 19-year-old male from Redmond died Friday evening in a motorcycle crash at the intersection of Southeast Second Street and Miller Avenue in Bend.

Malachi Longstroth was pronounced dead at the scene following a head-on collision with a Subaru Crosstrek shortly after 6:30 p.m., according to Bend Police. The motorcycle’s driver, a 20-year-old Bend man, was transported to St. Charles Medical Center with serious injuries.

Police reported that the motorcycle was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed when it struck the Subaru, which was making a left turn onto Miller Avenue. Both riders were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.

Witnesses and video footage indicated excessive speed as a primary factor in the collision. Officers provided emergency aid, including CPR and the use of a defibrillator.

The driver of the Subaru, a 25-year-old Bend man, remained at the scene and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation. Authorities confirmed he will not be identified as no citations were issued.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with the motorcycle driver still hospitalized as of March 16.
