Richard Silverman Killed in Motorcycle Accident on Highway 230 in Jackson County
Jackson County, Oregon (September 5, 2023) – Richard L. Silverman, 66, of Portland, was identified as a motorcyclist killed in a crash Saturday afternoon in Jackson County.
According to the Oregon State Police, the deadly crash happened at around 3:10 p.m. on September 2 on Highway 230 near milepost 6.
Thomas B. Austen, 70, of Auckland (New Zealand), was driving a Toyota Corolla when he drifted into the opposite lane and collided head-on with a Harley Davidson motorcycle operated by Silverman.
Silverman was declared dead at the scene.
Thomas Austen and his passenger, 68-year-old Victoria M. Austen of Auckland (New Zealand), were hospitalized with minor injuries.
OSP was assisted by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Prospect Fire & Rescue, Mercy Flights, and ODOT.
The crash impacted the highway for about seven hours as officers investigated the scene.
