A multi-vehicle collision occurred Sunday afternoon on Interstate 70 near Collinsville, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries.
According to the Illinois State Police, the accident happened around 2:30 p.m. involving three vehicles: a 2023 Ford F-150, a 2019 Toyota Camry, and a 2015 Honda Civic.
Officials confirmed that the driver of the Honda, 34-year-old Sarah T. Mitchell of Edwardsville, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency medical personnel transported two additional occupants from the Toyota to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The westbound lanes of I-70 were closed for over two hours to facilitate the investigation and cleanup, according to authorities.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no charges have been filed at this time.
