Serious Crash Closes Sugar Hollow Road in Danbury, Connecticut.

DANBURY, CT — Two people, including a Bridgeport police officer, were killed in a motorcycle crash early Monday on Sugar Hollow Road.

The collision occurred at approximately 2:45 a.m. near the Ridgefield town line, involving a Jeep Compass and a Harley Davidson motorcycle. According to Danbury Police, the front end of the Jeep sustained extensive damage, with the motorcycle found in the roadway.

Officer Cooper “Coop” Whiteside, 38, a Danbury resident, and Brittany Islami, 34, of New Milford, died at the scene. The driver of the Jeep was transported to Danbury Hospital with serious injuries.

Authorities reported that the motorcycle was traveling south when it collided with the northbound Jeep. Bridgeport Police stated that Whiteside joined the force in July 2024.

Additionally, the West Redding Volunteer Fire Department confirmed that Whiteside previously served in various roles, including firefighter, EMT, lieutenant, training captain, and vice president. He was also a former member of the Brookfield Volunteer Fire Company.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing, and no further details on lane closures or tows were provided at this time.
